[identity profile] sascha.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] techrecovery
I have no idea where to go with this, and I know this community is for complaining about techsupport customers, but I was hoping someone could help me. Please feel free to delete this if it's inappropriate, and if someone could direct me someplace else, that would be great. :-)

The story can be found on this post on my journal. The basic idea is that the keyboard on my laptop decide to randomly die on me.

And some information on my system, since I didn't include that on the post:
Acer Travelmate 730TXV
PIII 450 mHz
192 megs of RAM
Windows XP
Warranty expired last month :-P

This is the first problem I've had with the system in the three years I've owned it, and I have no idea what caused it to stop working. If anybody can offer any insight, it would be much appreciated! Also, plugging a keyboard into the system has been successful. :-)

I've emailed Acer about the problem, but I don't expect to hear from them in at least another two days!

well two guesses off the top of my head would be the mouse driver got corrupted, if you can try reinstalling/updateing from the website look for bios updates/pateches, and look for anything that might have recently changed, software settings that sort of thing.

Call Acer.. you will probably need a new keybord.. maybe a connector or something got loose.. if you are nice enough to them on the phone 30 days out of warranty is not a big deal. They can do it up to 45 days sometimes... just be nice and if you get a TS that is in a good mood.. he/she will help you.

Pentium III and Windows XP. There's your problem.

Sorry, most likely that's NOT the reason, but being somebody who's fond of AMD and Linux, i just like blaming all my woes on Intel and Microsoft....

:-D

Dunno what to say, check with Acer. I haven't had too much dealings with them, but the couple of times I have worked on Acer laptops I noticed that the keyboards were pretty vulerable to even atmospheric moisture, and easily damaged. If they don't cover the keybaord under warrenty, but their recomendation is replacing the keyboard, check the web first. I have seen sites that sell the laptop keyboards to the laptop companies for usually around 60-80 bucks.
