I work in the email/remote access queue so we always get hardware and network calls. Flat tire? Call email queue. Pizza delivery late? Must be email-related.

This lady just called me in the email queue to find out how to turn off the embedded number keypad on her Thinkpad.

That "all other issues" button a couple down from "email" must really faze them.

Nice, and that's not an easy one either. Cause every other laptop brand uses the FN key and a numlock function key to toggle it. Thinkpads, having to be different use the shift key.

I woulda started by telling her to open a window ....

Still, it's hard to stretch that to an email issue.

For us yes .. for them ... *shakes head*

If I had a nickle for every time I got a call about a tv being on the fritze ...and I have nothing to do with cable :P

Shift + Numlock :)

(i work for IBM. it's one of our more common questions. Numlock to turn on, Shift+Numlock to turn off. god knows why...)

My girlfriend once worked for Apple doing hardware support. She once had someone navigate all the way through the menus (which were evidently fairly extensive), get her on the phone, listen to her say "Thank you for calling Apple . . ." and then proceed to try and order parts for his BMW.

How about changing the reel-em-in word "Email" to one less likely to produce finger spasms? Like the full name of the email program (including versioning). By the time they parse it, the IVR's moved on to the next option and they'll have to go around again to recheck it.

"Email" is just too much of an "I've heard that before!" triggerword. It's worse than "internet", "printing" and "computer" combined.

Dunno on this one.
I'd sell them a ticket to have their PC formated. Take tax on it. Take tip on it. ...>:)

it would turn out to be a lottery of sorts. If someone in the email queue actually received a phone call after that menu was implemented, they'd have to chip in a buck. the last person "standing" (has the least recognizable email client) gets the pot!
