Mail server problems this morning, 550 5.7.1 admin blocks on random customers, mostly business customers. Narrowed it down to customers using Covad SOHO packages and using our SMTP server to relay mail from their domains (does that make sense? the were using their own domain names).

Server log investigation revealed that yesterday, the reverse DNS for Covad IPs was something like h-68-165-x-x.mclnva23.covad.net, and today they resolve to h-68-165-x-x.noclli.covad.net. And I don't think anyone ever told us this was happening. So tons of these customers were pissed when I told them they'd have to wait till tomorrow for the DNS servers to refresh, or something. Anyhow, who at Covad is responsible for this, and were we really informed about this and my boss is just nuts?

Eventually I just convinced my boss to turn off that sort of checking for the day, so I'm sure tons more spam will be going out today.

Also, I'm currently on hold with Alltel, because now apparently we resell service from companies I've never even heard of. In between bursts of lite jazz music, the announcer girl comes on and advises me to check out the Alltel web site so I can do fun things like pay my bill online, check for service, and "even download internet service and so much more!"
