F* Spam.

Stop calling me and complaining that you still get spam with the spam blocker. Let me explain.

The spam blocker is there to remove the majority of spam, but as spammers change their methods it's not going to stop everything. Dont say:

"It was working just fine, did you guys turn it off?"
"I turned it on, and my spam went away for a long time, now I keep getting spam...do you care about the spam anymore?"
"Why is my spam filter not working? It should remove all of it right?"

Sure, I like the premise of a spam blocker...but these people (or monkeys) think that it's just the ultimate cure all.

Let me tell you, it's not! I still get spam, and I have a couple of spam blockers. Perhaps I should turn off your spam blocker to truly show you what you could be getting!

Dearest Customer,

F* off and die!

Ugh...

Off the cuff, I would say we get at least 5 or so tickets a week about "spam problems".

Oh, you could definitely get away with that as a troubleshooting step: "You're right, sir, that does sound like a malfunctioning spam filter. In order to troubleshoot the problem, we're going to need to turn it off for a few days and have you monitor the number and type of spam emails you receive."

That is why ISPs should not be in the buissnes of spam/virus/firwall/etc... Just give them the connection.

I agree with that.

When I first got online, the ISP provided nothing. I had to update my virus protection and learn how to use it and not download crap.

Now everyone is click happy and clicks on anything that comes into their freaking inbox.

We had to many calls today about a German spam/virus that is circulating.

Why do they call us? Fucking delete the shit out of the inbox instead of scrutinizing everything in there. But they will send 10000 forwards with their email exposed to the world.

"I DON'T KNOW ANYONE IN GERMANY! I CAN SPEAK GERMAN! TELL THEM TO STOP SENDING THIS!"

Uhhhh it's a virus, it's spam. Ignore, delete, move on with your life.

The spam/virus filtering isn't for the benefit of dumb customers... it's for the benefit of smart customers who would inevitably suffer spill-over from the idiots who'll click anything out of pure pavlovian instinct and clog teh interweb with zombie SMTP traffic.

At least, that's what I tell myself

Yup! I know! TONS of customers coming in for this! Why can't they just hit delete? It's like we have to hold there hand every time they come across something on the internet. Geez, Google it! Educate! Now they've added our Talk Times back in and to get a bonus, Average has to be less than 10 minutes. How do you tell someone asshole who types slow to get the fuck to the point in less than 10 minutes?!

I work chat tech support for an ISP and I'll tell ya, the stupids that come into chat are fucking ridiculous!

Anything from "I'm getting Windows Errors." (um then wouldn't you call your computer company?)

To "I need to change my address for Netflix because I"m moving. Are you Netflix?" (What URL did you type when you got to me? Was it Netflix.com?)

In addition to Freaks who just dropped acid and start to rant in a creative way as seen here:

Luser> What I'm really asking is the forensic secrets of how to reveal, identify and reset ports, adresses, whatever. I have SP2 on disc, Mr. Gate's generosity. I began this bleak trail in November 2004.

Luser> More recent, and intimate is the suggestion from [Our ISP's Security Package] to upgrade my security package...Yup, did, got stung...same solution...Regress.

O.o

This person above's chat lasted 57 minutes and I still have no clue what his point was. Sp2's firewall? Why do they come into tech support after they have dropped acid? Isn't there other chat's on the internet that are free that they can go to that won't affect my time for a bonus?

I hate people so much after working here. I think when I'm driving that those slow jerks are the ones that call me up for stupid stuff that if they just used their brain for 2 minutes, the answer would come to them. If they can't handle a car, they can't handle a computer.

I have no sympathy for those who download a virus or click on a link they shouldn't. They are uneducated and deserve it. They won't admit when their child has downloaded something that has stopped their internet from working. "No. Not my child. No nothing has been downloaded." Riiiigghhhtt. And I'm the Pope.

Whew! Sorry about the vent. Yes. Those same asssholes were at our ISP about the german crap.
