Working on some windows shorcuts - just a guide for the guys at work (poor mouse boys that they are)

so far I have...

Alt+Enter brings up properties for selected object
Control+escape brings up start menu

Win+D brings up the desktop
win+R brings up the run dialogue
Win+E is explorer
Win+M minimizes everything possible
Win+U is the utility manager for disabled people stuff
Win+F is windows find
Win+L locks the computer


Anyone else have any others?

Ctrl-Shift-Esc brings up task manager

Ctrl-P prints(handy when the menus are hidden in IE/FireFox/Etc)

Plus, you can assign shortcuts to any program you want, on my machine, ctrl-alt-p pops up putty.

Win+L only works on XP, unfortunately.

Win+L only locks in that one mode of XP (I forget the name, not the default) Whatever mine's in, it brings up a Logoff? prompt.

oh, and start-run-taskmgr brings up the task manager. as most of our customers are running XP and have the mental capacity of a lobotomised chimp, we've found that one easier to use :P

Work when it's in Domain mode. Not sure about Workgroup mode...

Don't assume anything. Nobody at my workplace knows alt+tab and ctrl+tab.

Actually, I'm pretty sure most of them don't know that tab/shift+tab lets you go to the next/previous input.

Or CTRL+C, V, X, N good lord they don't know anything.

I didn't know this one until very recently Ctrl-A, select all text in page. Very helpful when doing standard replies etc.

Ctrl+Shift+Esc = Task Manager

IIRC, Home does not offer fast user switching. I could be wrong though (never used home, only pro)

Win+L locks both classic logon and the welcome screen.

HOWEVER using Win+L with the classic (domain-style) logon is dangerous - there are scripts out there that can very easily steal your password when you use this method and then log back in. Better to do Ctrl+Alt+Del and then hit Lock Computer if you're concerned about password security.

Ctrl+V paste from clipboard
Ctrl+C copy to clipboard
Ctrl+X cut to clipboard (copies and then removes from document/image/etc)
Ctrl+Z undo last operation
Ctrl+Y redo last operation
Ctrl+arrow hops from word to word in text, making it easier to move your cursor to a particular point

By itself, PrintScreen will copy the entire monitor screen to the copy buffer, as well.

Isn't there a keyboard combination that with the appropriate reghack causes a WinXP box to BSOD? If I remember, it was something like Ctra+Alt+F11. Produces something like Manually_Initiated_Crash. For users too dumb to find the Start button or the power button on the tower, this makes sense. This is perhaps the safest configuration for them to just yank the power cord.
