so i just got off a service call kind of. my brother who works at a hotel in guest services calls me up.

the issue was a guest with a laptop is having issues with his screen resolution. the problem is the guy is korean speaks very little english and the laptop has the korean version of windows XP on it. Now i don't speak any korean but my brother is fluent. my brother is not a computer guy.

so i walk my brother through a few things trying to figure out the issue. i had to describe what the icons look like and count from the top to tell him which line options were on. the issue at hand was that the laptop had been connected to an external monitor or projector at some point. so the computer was defaulting to the external monitor and not the builtin LCD.

it took about 20 minutes to resolve the issue, and i was just thankful that i didnt have to deal with someone who didn't listen to the instructions given to them.

Don't most laptops have like a keyboard Fn+key combo that switches between LCD and CRT output or something?

Or fn-F12, or fn-F7. Depends on the vendor.
