Crappity crap crap crap crap crap.
Jan. 18th, 2005 07:03 pmComputer at work re-imaged. Can't install anything. Not even QuickTime.
Which means that watching (most) movie trailers is a thing of the past. So much for http://apple.com/trailers being of any use.
Reason for the re-image? To prevent spyware. All well and good, but...presumably, one reason I'm working there is because I already *&^%ing know how to keep spyware off my ^%#$ing machine. I'm a &^$%ing computer geek.
This means there are "support technicians" working there who, apparently, don't have this knowledge. *heavy sigh...*

seriously though, we've had idiots opening emails with suspicious Zips, and then infecting 500 machines and killing our mail servers, installing and running games that fuck with the machines...And none of the help desk have net access outside of a few sites anyway, so wtf do they need quicktime for?
(Note: this does not apply to Graveyard guys, who when have no work just fuck about on our NSR machines for unlimited everything :D)
still....makes...blood...boil....especially the arsehole who (in a HOT SEATING SITUATION) installed fucking protoss theme on a machine, then tried to bitch me out when I nuked it...

Date: 2005-01-18 05:43 pm (UTC)And, the more I think about it, several of our techs aren't really 'techs' so much as they are 'customer service' reps with a bit of tech training.
Still, things like Shockwave are allowed, specifically to offset 'all work and no play' syndrome. (QT isn't specifically blocked; it's just a consequence of the installer looking for the section of the drive that's outlawed.)
Agreed that techs (or any other users) who install junk like Comet Cursor, etc., should be beaten with a bag of oranges.

Ask the next level techs nicely? Sorry, unsure what they call them where you work, where I work we're just NSR's (we do everything from RAM upgrades on helpdesk machines and re-RISing to supporting the Radius servers for the company) If the network is worth its salt, there'll be a domain password they can log in as admin on and install it for you
