techrecovery | Conversation with some airhead who just didn't get it (Reply)

Customer calls up and says to me "I have a HUGE credit card bill for internet porn that is coming from your server. It's been going on for a few months but this month it's just HUGE!"

Okay thinking that this might be someone on our server who had nothing to do with her account and charging porn to her account, I continue to ask some questions to find out what is going on.

Me: "How do you know it's coming from us?"

Luser: "I called the porn company's number that was listed on my credit card bill to find out WHO put this there. They gave me the email address and IP address of the user name who was using my credit card."

Great! We have a solution to her problem. Or so I think.

Me: "What is the IP address?" [she gives it to me and I run it through arin.net and paste the results into the call record - the IP address is our server]

Me: "Yes you are right, it is from our server. "

Luser: "Are you sure? How do you know?"

Me: "Well I ran it through a webpage that tells me where the IP address is coming from. {thinking} Ma'am can you do me a favor? Are you online right now?"

Luser: "Yes"

Me: "Could you please type in www.myipaddress.com and hit go in internet explorer?"

she does and lo and behold the IP address is coming from her computer.

Me: "Ma'am that IP address is associated with you. What is the email address that is being used to get to these porn sites?"

Luser: "The one that's on our account!"

Me: "So this IP address is coming from YOUR COMPUTER, and the person used YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS and YOUR CREDIT CARD?"

Luser: "Yes."

I repeated that a few times and she didn't get what I was trying to say.

Me: "I'm sorry but there is nothing we can do about this. You must talk with the credit card company and the porn company about who is doing this."

Apparently it's only her and her husband on the account and in the house. Did she think to ask the husband if HE was on the porn sites? I guess the credit card company is stating that she doesn't have to pay for some of this bill. (???)
