The Laptop Email Setup Document (As Tested On Small Children) has claimed another victim, this one supposedly the 'technician' (read: Tier 0/1) for a couple of offices.

Yes, Eric, it helps if the user is logged into the CORRECT server before starting.
Yes, Eric, the "User's File Server" mentioned on page three is the same "User's File Server" you were supposed to write down on page one. It is not some random unrelated server name you pulled out of your ass.
Yes, Eric, you do have to complete step 8 (launch the email app) before you can go on to step 9 (click on a menu in the app). I realise this comes as a surprise to you.

Nnnnnng.

Not to mention that today, at least three different types of hold music apparently became bored with their mundane existence on someone's answering machine, and decided to spice it up by calling me. Note that you cannot get through to me without first pressing at least two separate buttons on your phone in series after you dial Tech Support.

Hold music is tolerated for exactly as long as it takes me to say "IT-Support-Steve-speaking-can-I-grab-your-userID-take-me-off-hold-goodbye", which is now down to under two seconds. There's little or no wait queue on Thursdays, so either these people are deciding to put the Helpdesk on hold arbitrarily, or they actually have no idea how to use their phone. Either way, I will not waste my time.

Random note to uppity managers: If you knew what the hell you were doing, you wouldn't need to call me for my expertise, now STFU and answer my questions kthx.

Lesson for today - if:
1) All users on a given email server can load up the email app and read their email fine, and
2) The email server pings OK and will happily produce directory listings, but
3) The app locks hard when they try to send anything,

...check that the mail server bandwidth and/or disk space isn't being reamed by an ultra-massive download from somewhere offsite.

Now there's something I've not run into in almost six years of working with these beasties. I guess you only die when you stop learning.
