Luser: My printer hasn't printed since Friday, and it still isn't working, how come?
Tech: Did you call this on Friday?
Luser: No.
Tech: Monday?
Luser: No.
Tech: Why did you wait?
Luser: I thought it might fix itself. It has before when it has done this error.
Tech: What does the error say?
Luser: "Low Toner"

Ack! I hate seeing someone shack a toner cartridge like that. If you want to extend the life that way at the very least do it g e n t l y so as not to aggravate the poor toner that still exists inside of the durn thing :)

Yeah, we do that at the college I work at too. We don't really shake it that hard, just turn it over a few times and give it a gentle shake. Usually lasts for quite a while after that. You can usually do that about two or three times before it's actually out of toner. Then we recycle it. Saves us quite a lot of money.

I had a fantastic relationship with the vendor that serviced our printers at one of my former jobs. They supplied very good recharged cartridges that I rarely had problems with. Course with some of the later HP cartridges you had to watch out cause if they didn't do them right, toner would start pouring out of the durn things once you started to flip it over.

Course then we had the one printer that decided it wanted only NEW and OEM cartridges. To this day when someone mentions an HP LJ5M I cringe in horror :)
