See, I'm in a call center, but we're a cube farm, in a smallish area, with no windows (duh), and a highly casual dress code.

About the only thing we can't be at work is naked. :-p

I'm the only office member out of about 25 allowed to wear casual clothes.. everyone else is business casual, leaning towards business sometimes.

Being the Sys/Net Admin and needing to crawl around on the floors sometimes has it perks.

We dress somewhere between business casual and casual. It's generally nice casual -- nobody wears shorts and t-shirts, but jeans and t-shirts (on Friday) are common.

We don't have cubes in my building, thank god, although I would kill for a private office of my very own. Well, a private office and the ability to not eat lunch on a schedule. I share an office and since we have to provide coverage.... I can't take lunch whenever I want. Feh. One of the main things I miss about being a tech.

My "call center" is a really laid-back office with no fluorescent lighting (except for emergencies). We have four computer desks arranged in a square (only two or three people on the phones at any given time), facing each other, with a couple of lamps and some windows for light. It's a good geek environment.

Heh. I've been promised an office after we move into a larger quite in a few months.

Right now, though, I'm shoehorned into what used to be the break room.

I can get away with a tshirt and jeans if I want to, because I am the IT guy for the reigon, and frequently I have to run cable, crawl under desks, and other nasty chores.

I'm an ISP support tech, I do phone/email support.
There really ain't no dresscode for work since most of our clients never come here, the salesfloor has business dress when with clients but otherwise casual.

Tech's usuallt is a jeans+golfshirt/tshirt deal.

I wear suit,tie,coat and a fedora hat.

Sometimes I think I'm just about the only tech out there how does that.

I'd chalk that up as "business". Formal would be a jacket on top of that, or a suit, something like that.

That's us, except part of our dress code involves no weird piercings or tattoos. Which is kind of weird. These rules were put in place just for one person.

"Weird"=nothing except ears. No visible tattoos. This is grounds for termination.

Apparently this is because the higherups wanted to make a better impression on the rest of the people in the building.

Yeah, that pretty much falls apart when they realize you have 15-year-olds doing tech support.

Also, rumor ha(s/d) it that there is, or was, going to be a rule that was going to outlaw me wearing tight jeans. I would quit. That's too much.

Hm, ours is quite similar. Square of desks with partitions in between, most people using desklamps to keep a warm non-fluorescent non-eyestraining glow.

We don't have windows, but out the door we can see one. Windows would be nice.

"Rules" for my place of employment

No visible piercings.
No visible tatoos.
No jeans unless it's the last Friday of the month and even then no tennis shoes

Women must wear hose (f*ck that) and men must wear a tie. *rolleyes*

I answered "casual" for official dresscode, because it is. Well, okay, so we're told "business casual, but management doesn't care if you wear jeans and a tshirt, so long as it's kept clean and presentable". So we can wear jeans, tshirts with pictures, so long as there's nothing offensive, no huge tears and such, etc.

Mind, we can't wear hats... o.O


I once had a discussion with a coworker:
I was knitting and he got offended by it. I explained that our company is laid back - look at how lax the dress code is.

Him: "What, so are you saying this company isn't worth it?"
Me: "No, I'm saying that they're intelligent enough to realize that we sit at a desk all day and being able to dress comfortably means we can be more affable with the customer."

Ah yes. I remember the first fight I got into with a manager at this job, lo those many years ago. About the dress code, naturally. He was on the side of collared shirts, I responded by demonstrating that 70% of the building staff did not wear them, and almost none of the Board's PAs wore them either.

"If bare necks are good enough for the Board to look at all day long, they're good enough for you, boss."

"But the CEO might randomly visit us!"

"The CEO's PA doesn't wear collared shirts either. It'll hardly be a culture shock."
