Dear Luser,

I realize you want to do the open enrollment for your health insurance. However, the powers that be bought a crappy bit of software that the operations group hates and we're being required to run it, and it likes to try and eat the as400. When you call because it's down and I tell you they're rebooting and to wait 10 minutes, please remember this is NOT Microsoft Time we are talking about. It is real time. Calling me back three minutes later to complain again doesn't help, because I'm going to tell you the same thing.

Actually, I'm the helpdesk, so I get to answer the calls when they call and whine that it doesn't work. At least I don't have to answer questions /about/ it. However, I do a lot of work with our operations/security group, and I've heard both the manager and the guy I work most with swearing about it. A lot. It had to be rebooted three times today.

An AS/400...being...IPL'd...3 times per day?

That's absurd. Back in the day I was using 'em, we'd run Lotus Domino on those suckers flat-out for WEEKS without an IPL.
