This person sounded like it was an effort for him to talk to tech support.

He was a low talker and kept blaming the company for his own stupidity.

"Every time there is an electrical outage, my modem goes down. I have to keep replacing it."

trying to find outage in history - none found for "electrical" outage. No outages whatsoever.

"What do you mean, "Electrical outage?"

"I called before and spoke with anthony and he said there was an electrical outage in my area."

I see no call with Anthony as well as no electrical outages.

"So when you have a power outage you lose connection with the cable modem and have to replace it? An electrical surge fried your modem?"

"Yes."

"Is it in a Surge protector?"

"No."

"It's plugged directly into the wall then?"

"Yes."

"Sir, you should be putting all your computer equipment into a surge protector for your equipment's own safety."

"No one told me to."

"Is your computer and printer in a surge protector?"

"yes."

"Then you should be putting ALL your computer equipment into it as well. No one should have to tell you to do that. You should be taking precautions from surges with your own equipment so you don't fry anything else from a surge."

"But I had a tech out here and he saw my modem and he didn't tell me to put it into one."

"The tech's job is to make sure you are connected and up and running on the internet. He replaced your modem. He's not there to protect your equipment. That is your job to make sure your equipment is protected and safe."

"Well you should notify us to put our modem's in a surge protector..."

continues on and on how no one told him to do this...ended with "whatever..."

Here comes the complaint of "I have a business to run..." and his modem being offline is causing him to lose money.

"You are running a business on a residential line?"

"Yes."

"This is a residential line for entertainment purposes only. It's in the Terms of Service you agreed to.
If you are running a business you should be signed up with our commercial service. You will get priority for Trouble Calls to get you back up and running."

"And your point is?"

:slams head on desk:

He deserves to have his computer fried by a power surge going through his 4.99 surge protector as well as having a trouble call set up for 3 weeks from yesterday.

Some people's children...

After the current decable at work is over, I'm going to see about pushing for some battery backups for little things like our phone system and WAN/LAN gear.
