Me (talking to a dialup customer): What's the error message it's giving you?
Luser: It just says dialup networking didn't go through.
Me: That's the error message? "Dialup networking did not go through"?
Luser: Yes.

Sometimes it just isnt worth getting up in the morning . . .

Just have the user pack the computer back up in the box it came in, and send it back to where they got it. If that wont work, chucking it out of a 2nd or 3rd story window can be helpful too.

cust: I try to log on to ISP.net, i keep getting an error.
me: what is the error?
cust: it just says, "nothing to display"
me: that's the error? "nothing to display"

...
thing is, the site was actually giving some customers a white page with the text "nothing to display"

I tell them to go away and come back when they have a 3-digit error code (no, not area code! error code, error code! *mute* ARG *unmute*). Unless they're running 95. In which case I mute and pound my head against the desk a couple times.

Me: "Okay sir, what you are going to need to do is contact the manufacturer of your computer as Windows is making up errors of its volition"

well sure, it is possible to program your webserver to deliver a custom 404 of course, not like that actually helps anything, which some programmers seem to think it does, it just causes confusion all around.
