danicia. I provide support to about 400 corporate users at the headquarters for a publishing firm.
I've had this same conversation with several users of late whilst visiting their PC to remove the spyware they've allowed onto their system.
User: Well you shouldn't be too upset by this stuff then, it's job security, right!?!
Trase: [continuing to focus on display, not turning to face user] Well, let me ask you this. If there was suddenly a large-scale outbreak of the measles, the plague, or Spanish Influenza, and you required medical attention, would you say the same thing to your doctor?
User: Of course not! My doctor is already plenty busy without having to deal with that kind of thing!
Trase: [turns to user, tilts head, raises eyebrows, and grimaces slightly]
User: [the obvious inference dawns on them slowly] ooohhhh....
