I just need to vent this for a second
Sep. 20th, 2002 12:30 pmThis is cross posted in my lj,
the_marionette, and in
co_workers_suck. I just needed to vent a lot. I'm sick of the fact that because I'm the only computer tech in the whole building, that my job title translates into "anything with buttons and has to plug into a wall that I don't understand"
Computer technician does not mean that I know anything about microfilm or microfiche machines. Do not direct the microfilm technician to me or direct patrons to me so that they can ask me how to use it. Do not ask me to clear paper jams or ask me why there is a white line running through the printout.
I know nothing about the heatless laminator so don't ask me if it will take this special cartridge for stickers.
I know nothing about fax machines but stick paper and dial. Do not ask me why you keep getting LINE ERROR or asking me why it takes so long or you didn't receive a fax last Saturday.
I know nothing about the overhead projector so don't ask me what the funny clicking noise is and ask me to fix it. Do not ask me where the lamp bulbs are for the overhead projector. I don't know.
I know nothing about the typewriters. I do not know why this typewriter has a label guide and the other one does not and no I do not know how to make the current typewriter have a label guide. No, I don't know how to change the margins "back to what they used to be."
I know nothing about photocopiers except put original on glass and hit copy. Please do not ring my extension telling me that the photocopier isn't shrinking and enlarging properly and ask me to take a look at it. Do not direct patrons to me to tell me that the photocopier is jammed.
I didn't even know we owned a video tape rewinder so do not ask me about why it's so noisy. Use some fucking common sense. Everything else in this building is older than dirt so why shouldn't the video tape rewinder be also? Old machinery can be noisy. Do not ask me to get the tape out that you accidentally jammed in the machine. I don't know how.
I know nothing about the cash register so do not ask me why the drawer isn't popping open. I have no idea how to void a transaction or correct your mistake. I have no idea why it makes a grinding noise when the receipt feeds through.
My title here is computer technician. That means that I fix, maintain, and troubleshoot computer and network equipment. It is not microfilm, microfiche, laminator, typewriter, photocopier, video tape rewinder, cash register, computer technician.
