Syntax Error

Duh..

After toying with my cable connection for a solid 2 hours this morning, I had an extreme luser moment.

After resetting the TCP/IP stack and attempting to reinstall Winsock, I get "the location you specified does not contain information about your hardware." when I type "C"\windows\inf"

Chalk it up to weird windows error, and keep going.

2 hours later, I remember I'm not using XP.

Windows 2000 does not install to the C:\Windows directory. It installs itself to the C:\WINNT directory. I immediately run back to installing network protocols, and type C:\WINNT\INF instead. Reboot, clear the stack again(just to be safe), and open IE.

Never been so happy to see msn.com...

You're not alone.

I plugged an USB mouse at the back of a laptop, but couldn't figure out why the mouse wasn't working.

Turned out that I plugged the USB in the network port. D'oh.

I've firefoxed.

And don't get me wrong, Firefox is great, but Win2K's IE is stable enough for what I do. I have FireFox as a backup, mostly to see if it's a software or hardware problem when my cable goes out.

I feel not quite so bad now. Reminds me of those lusers who complain that they can't get online with their dialup modem, and they're computer never shipped with one. They've been plugging the phone line into the network port.
