I have recently learned that one of the little mom and pop shops our ISP bought out about two years ago actually has one of the servers in a restaurant kitchen! *smart*
Eh, I've seen Dell 2x00 and 4x00 servers sitting behind a counter in a kitchen, usually with a thick coating of grease and splatter all over the case... for some reason those are the machines that never die.
We had this one site I always cringed at whenever I went there.
Here's their server, and their massive expensive tape drive, sitting in the back of the office of one of the sales guys. This office was off a warehouse where they kept some very nice cars parked. And the guy in the office with the server? Chain smoker. Gah.
He also hit on me and told me all about car racing every time I went over there.
Akk.... Smoking and servers should be a banned combination.
I had a guy bring a 'broken' computer in to be fixed. This inside was entirely coated in tar. And he was annoyed/confused that I refused to put it on warranty! (I worry about this similarity between the inside of the case and his lungs.....)
I can only imagine ours look about the same. Plus, the lady who owns the restaurant called to bitch because after we bought the company out we began charging her for her internet service. She even said that she goes in at all hours when they call her to "flip switches" *twitch twitch*
Oh yeah. Especially when he was a good 20 years my senior probably, too. Oh, and he /raced/ cars, too. And took photographs at high speed, as well as photographed scantily clad women with the cars. And bred dogs. And a couple of other things besides.
The tech who had previously covered the site was highly amused when I told him about it.
