this was originally written as a response to a comment, but shit, I just had to share it all up....


I had a brilliant moment of bofhishness last month.

As you may (or may not) know, last month was a Blue Moon (two full moons in one calendar month)

I got away with telling a customer that this was the cause of their inability to log on at random times during the month.

Because the moon has to pass close to Earth (particularly our hemisphere) in it's orbit to appear "full", I explained, each full moon causes gravitation pulls - hence the action of the waves.

Because this happened twice in a month, rather than the usual once, due to excessive gravitational and magnetic forces some of our more delicate equipment was experiencing issues, for which we apologise.

....


Customer swallowed it. Hook, line, sinker and fishing boat. :D

(the actual reason was radius errs we spent about three weeks tracking down...drove us *batshit*)
