It's my last day working for a major *Anti Virus and Security* Software and Appliances Vendor today, because they are "in-sourcing" to a support centre in Bangalore, India.

It's OK, I'm going back to NOC work for an ISP, but pity the fools who will be answering the phones on August 25th.

Watch out, everyone. XP SP2 is gonna raise some hell.

Just got a call from a company who beta tested the XP SP2 rollout on their SOE, which includes our software, in a networked lab environment...

'Twas in unison that they blue-screened...

Geez, I wonder if this could be Micro$haft (stfu) trying to piss everyone off with their existing anti virus software *just before* they release THEIR anti virus product!!!

No, they wouldn't dare take such boldly anti-competetive action.... Would they?

yeah i have a site thats IT dooface decided to roll it out this week. They HAD 30 hours of support time left. Then now have about 3 hours. He has a MASTERS DEGREE it IT dont u know. What a MORON!!!

Merging domains isn't hard, as long as you understand DNS properly and the domain management systems you are using, such as active directory.
Getting applications and firewalls to behave in a sane manner follow a domain merge is where the fun really begins.

It is more of a domain transfer than a merge. We are taking all of our PC's, servers and everything else and putting them on another domain. The problem is they have not taken all of the apps we use in to the equation.

They think that there will be no issues because it worked in a lab. We just got the powers that be to agree to a pilot group. It will get worse before it gets better.

In the words of the prophets: "I feel your pain". I recently had to do something similar. It *isn't* a simple matter of changing a setting (as you no doubt know). It managed to break our main database application, because it had the domain name hard coded into its config files. (That took fecking *ages* to find).

WRT XP SP2, I've done one user machine and my laptop with no problems *so far* I'm going to give them time to be used and break before I roll it out to the rest of my users.

I was just surprised they actually told us.

When they split the network we found out 30 minutes before it happend.

They still have not given us the network map yet.

I am so happy all of my users (with a few exceptions) are still on Win2K.

The only people we have on XP are some IT people and a few very competent users who asked nicely.
