2 calls....
Jul. 21st, 2004 06:26 pmI had 2 calls today that were surreal. They happened one after the other.
Call #1:
Them: "I added this person who's 20 years old, but the system is telling me they're 17."
Me: "What's the DOB?"
Them: "It's in '86."
Me: "Yeah, that would make them 17 or 18."
Them: "Hold on...what year is it?"
Call #2:
"Hello, I'm X. I work for Beavis."
I learned a moment later that Beavis is really BVIS - Blind and Visually Impaired Services...but it's still not an acronym I'd use. :)
Do their recruiting brochures say, "I love you...come to BVIS!"

Date: 2004-07-21 07:08 pm (UTC)According to my users, logging off is the same as restarting, a new laptop is warranted because all the icons are too big (resolution set to 600x480), zipped files are not unzipped or opened by doubling clicking on them (licensed copies of WinZip are part of our IT builds)because its simply not allowed to be that easy and that a print server should be rebooted because 1 document cannot be printer by 1 user.
Its amazing why people as intelligent as there are call someone as ignorant as I am since they already have all the answers.

Date: 2004-07-22 12:33 pm (UTC)I was (at one point) the fourth generation in my family to work for General Motors Corp.
At some time during the 1980's GM did the 'name game', and GMPD (General Motors Parts Division) was renamed GMWDD (General Motors Warehousing and Distribution Division).
This new name didn't last more than a couple of years, as the rest of the company started pronouncing the new acronym "Gumwadd"....
Of course, I could tell you the acronym that my former Tech Support unit went by for its last incarnation, but then I'd have to kill you.... ;)
