Yay MS

So yesterday we get this frantic call from a client at the end of the day. For about a week now they have not been able to access their email. Outlook just would not connect to the exchange server. Apperantly they went ahead and called MS for support. (Paid a few dollars for the trouble too.) Well, in the end MS told them they need to reinstall MS Exchange. They called us because they needed a second opinion, and they couldn't find their CD's.

So my boss, schedules me out there for 10 hours, figuring it will likely be an insane day. So I show up, and as usual, I start from scratch. I tend not to trust vague information, since I have no idea how the previous tech's came to that conclusion. Check event viewer. What do you know. Exchange failed to start because IIS Admin was missing. So I installed IIS, why it wasn't there, I have no clue. Start exchange services. Email starts pouring in. All in all, 15 minutes.

I was just happy that I got it fixed in 15 minutes. Frankly tho, I think MS should refund them their money for that suggestion their techsupport gave the company.

Oh come on. What MS rep isn't gonna pass up the chance to give MS a little bit more money. Besides, you know the standard rote is reformat, reinstall. If they actually taught people to troubleshoot instead of reformat, reinstall, they'd be out of business.

Good job on getting it corrected. I've had days like that too.
