McAfee AVERT Stinger

Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system. Stinger utilizes next generation scan engine technology, including process scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.

Stinger is wonderful!!! I've used it to recover a few SmartPodiums that had nasty, nasty viruses on them (that's what happens when they're not set to auto update VS and when you let profs plug whatever they want into the drives/usb ports)

Stinger is pretty much a staple at my office. Very handy.

Actually, it was intended for floppy use, so that you can disinfect a station by pulling it off the network while it runs.

It even works great on USB pens (which, of course, is far better than a floppy, depending on your plug n pray issues with the pen itself).

Just a thought. :)

It's handy when it works, but there have been a few times when they updated the versions to include new definations in both the executable and the onpage changelong. But then they forget to update the executable on the server. It can be annoying at times, but its a good place to start, I agree.
