I am what I guess what you would call a hybrid Geek Squad agent. I was a technician for Best Buy. They bought the Geek Squad and are merging them into all of their stores. The concept is sound, and the contract between Best Buy and Geek Squad allows the core Geek Squad teams to function as they did.

That portion of the company is supposedly a facination group to work for and do business with. But Best Buy Geek Squad is a different story. If you have my position (a CIA "Counter Intelligence Agent") you have to deal with all the retail crap.

In my store its the age old problem of management not giving a damn about the tech department because repair revenue is such a minor percentage. However, if you are a Double Agent, you do indeed get your own VW Beetle and go to people's homes to fix their computers and set up networks and such.

THAT job regardless of the Best Buy relationship is fantastic, I have a good friend who is a DA and he is loving every minuite of it.

Yea, don't expect to get on it right away anyway, Best Buy employees are chomping at the bit to get on this squad (Trust me, I do in comp tech at one)

Hmm I knew they were with Best Buy but I didn't realize they were owned by best buy.

To your knowledge is hiring for the squad closed off to all except for current Best Buy employees? That would suck . . .

Well, the DA position is pretty much a holy grail at Best Buy now. Only the most trust worthy get that position. I've seen people who deserve it get it and people who don't deserve it get it (which is AMAZING because one individual doesn't know shit and is going to fuck up royally at one point).

Otherwise, it once again depends on the store. Some stores will let you become a tech immediatly while others will make you work in the computer department first.

It is open, but keep in mind you have a full staff of computer salesman and computer technicians who all have seniority over you trying to get your job.

Probably a good thing that there's about 5 Best Buys within a 20 mile radius of my home. ;-)

They won't be closing the office where I currently work for at least a few months anyway (thankfully!)
