Now on Slashdot, techsupport's worst enemy: The guy that has just enough IT knowledge to completely f^@k up a computer/network/environment.

What they fail to mention is these people are also the ones setting up rogue DHCP servers, crashing/corrupting databases, and installing so much spy/malware that the proc and NIC aggree to go on strike.

Yes, all 8 characters of your user ID are significant. No, typing just some of them isn't enough to let the computer "know who you are". Yes, I'm sure. No, it wasn't working last week; the logs clearly show you were typing the whole thing last week. Yes, I'm sure about that, too.

Kill me.

Yes, I install Coppermine galleries and various forums for a fee. No, I cannot upload + install it if I cannot access your hosting account. There is no (legal) way for me to magically use your account without you giving me some form of access. No, by "give me access" I do not mean "may I have your permission." Yes, I'm sure about this. No, there's nobody of any credibility that will tell you differently. No, it is physically impossible to upload a file if I don't know where to upload it to, and I cannot install it if I don't know where it's uploaded. Yes, once again, I'm sure.

Also, no, installation does not include design. Yes, design is extra. Yes, I think that's fair. No, I won't "cut you a break" and do it for free. No, "all of us computer types" are not billionaires "like that Windows guy you saw on the news." Most of us work for a lot less than we're worth, and a lot less than we deserve for having to answer stupid questions like this one.

Yes, I do have a life, and yes, I do realize how much the dollar is worth. That's why I work doing this. I like having a bank account that's not overdrawn. Yes, it really is the simple things in life. Yes, this is like any other service - I am not a one-woman charity for aspiring web users.

No, I don't think I'm "ripping you off." I informed you of my charges when you contacted me. No, it is not my fault that you "didn't have time to read" my 10-sentence form email that nobody's had problems with before now.

If you'd rather spend more and have to fix it yourself, you're welcome to hire someone else. Why yes, I do accept payment via PayPal! Have a nice day.
