My File: Can You Find It?

Before I get to the short rant that references the topic of the post, let me introduce myself. I work as the weekend library lab person at my university's main campus, and we get a lot of people on the weekends that... have less computer experience than me. It's usually not a problem, but sometimes there are students who think they know everything and get all up in my face and claim that they weren't on their cell phone even though I was standing next to them watching them talk for 10 minutes going *ahem ahem* louder and louder. Anywho...
Today a girl came in who had been there Saturday working on a paper and she had this little gem.
Well, after explaining it to her and her getting even more flippity with me, I told her she's just have to tough it out and redo the missing parts. It was maybe 2 or 3 pages tops. Later she came up to me and proudly showed that she'd dug a copy of it out of the trash she printed and threw away yesterday. I was so proud(sick) of her that I plum forgot to mention we had a scanner with text recognition software. She seemed to enjoy retyping it though.
Thanks for letting me rant - I'm just glad the wifi didn't cut out again in the dorms here. The tech support for our school just doesn't understand that people on BitTorrent aren't causing the problems if there's no signal - it's the cheap hardware that's giving a signal with a radius of 15 feet max that may be causing the problem. They don't take me seriously because I'm a student.
EDITED 10/15 to fix horrible font.

"I didn't save my paper to my thumb drive, can you retrieve it for me?"
"Well, I can try, but most of the network computers get cleaned every night. Unless you saved it to the right folder, it might just be gone forever."
"NO, YOU DON'T GET IT. I didn't save it to a folder, I saved it in Word."
Mmmhmm. Yes. I see now. That makes all the difference. Just let me check my *facepalm* for a moment.
