Have you noticed that AOL is some people's "speed"?

It's catered to their education level.

"I need those funny little icons to tell me what to do! I'm too retarded to read."

The reason I prompt this short little tidbit is because it took 1/2 to set this man up with email. Half an hour!

*headdesk*

I'm hoping though, with some luck...my resume will save me from this job soon. I'm in the market.

Not a rant, but something some of you hardware geeks might appreciate.

As part of our company's office suite reconfiguration/renovation, it was my responsibility to "clean out" the network room.

When I first started working here nearly 6 years ago (when there were 15 people instead of the 9 we have now), it was already stocked with developer CDs from 1995, 3.5" floppies, 5.25" floppies, and a smorgasbord of hardware apparently intended to support the myriad of PCs we had at the time.

Behind the cut is a list of amusingly ancient artifacts I discovered during my quest to retrieve what remained useful to us and our current PC/network hardware.

Just call me Indiana Chris... )

I was hoping to find some ISA cards, but the only ones I've seen were in the couple of Pentium 100 MHz desktop PCs I threw out earlier.

I live and work in... Florida... Southeast Florida to be exact, right about where Wilma is possibly going to exit. heh.

In August, I did a backup of everyone's computer, August 25th. Burned everything to CD. I am only requried to do a backup quarterly.

There is a backup system at the university, but because we are a remote sight, some of it isn't working right, and its not really been a huge priority. The only computer backing up is mine. It copies, but you can't retrieve it back through the network, which is an issue, especially when I burn about 20 CD's worth of stuff that I do A YEAR. (You should see my CD/Zip Disk Backups for me alone.. I do graphics, and lots of them).

Monthly, I send out an email telling people to back up their more recent files.

Yesterday, I was asked if I would be backing up everyone's computers due to Wilma hitting next week. My answer? No, it took all day and then some.

My boss asked for the last back up date... August 25th. Knowing its probably only a Cat 1 when it hits, she agreed. People complained, and she said "She is not responsible for YOUR work, and she has other proceedures she has to follow through. Backing up your files are YOUR responsibility."

Go Boss...

I did explain to people that they only needed to back up files altered AFTER 8/25/05 and showed them how to do it. That did smooth some things over a bit.

Oh... I am the technology AND facilities coordinator, so I am responsible for locking down/getting the place locked down. Some days, my boss rocks.

Ohhh, one or two staff had a few large files that would not fit on floppies (we have alot of older computers with no CD burners accessible). I did, quickly grab them through the network and put them on a disk.. THAT is a different story, and they asked nicely. 20 mintues work instead of hours.

So some guy named his newborn son Google.

I hope the kid gets arrested when he's old enough, and the police can say they searched Google.

(I'm too lazy to find the link for it, so you know what to use to find it on your own I hope)
