yeah I think and appropriate punishment would be that every tech support person that has had to deal with customers over this issue should be able to slap him. Just once, hard and fast. *kersmack*

Bugger putting him in prison.
Send him on a little holiday to each and every support centre in the world… we'll show him a good time.
Better yet, Let's make the little bastard answer call after call after call, with no breaks, and no sleep, relating to the problem until he is either malnourished, or near dead. And he has to answer the customer emails at the same time. 1 for each call he takes… at the same time… No cut and paste.
Someone asked if he was allowed to call a supervisor for advice... my reply :
Sure.
Then we can scream obscenities down the phone to him about how pitiful a human being he is, and give him the incorrect information to troubleshoot.
It doesn't look like he had any foreknowledge of the vulnerabilities. Sasser appeared after the vulnerability had been well-known for about two weeks, so his only trick was in figuring out how to exploit it.
