This was actually said to me several years ago while I was working at my college IT office during college.

Student: Hi. Um...My computer keeps making this chirping noise and I don't know what it's from. Can you take a look?
Me: Sure

So I poke around the machine a bit and find Weather Bug.

Me: It appears you have Weather Bug installed, you might want to take it off, we've seen it screw up machines before
Student: You mean that noise is a PROGRAM!? Thank GOODNESS! I thought it had a virus.
Me: No, you look ok virus wise
Student: Well, that's the same noise my alarm clock makes and my computer sits next to it. So I just thought that my alarm clock had infected my computer with a virus.

It took all that I had not to laugh in her face and tell her she was a moron.

That alarm clock really should have used protection. What a hussy.

Someday that will be possible. No really! Of course, $12 clocks that you buy at Walmart PROBABLY won't be a vector...
