Retail.

Not five minutes after I start my shift, a customer comes in with their laptop, stating that, among other things, they can't open a certain folder full of files any more. You can tell a customer who's frustrated and unable to handle it; there's the monotonous tone of voice, the stream of consciousness, the verbal diarrhea, the fact that they will interrupt you despite the fact they're there for your advice, and even though something has gone wrong, they are always, always right. I know I'm not the only one that's dealt with these, and I digress.

I have a look, and, sure enough, they're a bunch of files with an EZE extension, and set to open with Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer doesn't know what the heck to do with them, so it asks you if you want to Run/Save/Cancel as if downloading these EZE files from the Internet. I've never seen these EZE files before. I look at them, turn to the customer, and plainly ask, "What program do you use to open these files?"

Without skipping a beat, the customer replies, "Oh, Windows 7, of course."

...Today is going to be a long day.

And then, of course, there's the ones who can't find a file because they're using the File, Open... browser in MS Word. And looking for a PDF or something. And don't know how to use Explorer.

I had a user once tell me that *I* had broken something because she couldn't see a file in explorer.

She was using Word to look for an Excel file. Not a problem in OpenOffice.org...

For sheer brain-dead, hard to beat the client that sent my user a .lnk file, then told me she'd have her IT department contact me to teach me how to open it.
