(ps. a bit of a backstory: it's an in-joke on a forum that i post on, where if anyone asks a tech support related question (something that is normally off-topic on the forum), we respond with overcomplicated nonsense, obviously the humour is lost here, lol?)

I don't like this. It's computer people like these that make computers and electronics just sound even more frustrating and confusing and difficult than they already are.

Yeah, he doesn't know as much about computers as you, smart guy. Why do you think he asked you for help? To turn the tables, I expect you never have to ask anybody about anything ever, since people like you exist just to spread misinformation and get a laugh at another's expense.

...I'm just going to stop now before this turns into a big long rant.

I laughed at that blog exactly as much as I do at technobabble in TV and movies: not at all. I imagine it's how my husband feels about medical babble on the screen: it's wrong, painful, and just not funny.

Meh, each to their own - Ive seen people on this very comm use quite similar approaches to ward off idiot lusers who stumble in here. And I think its pretty funny - the first satellite post aside which is over long and boring, but if you go past that it gets a little better.

FWIW rooftopaccess is my partner and I've been on this comm for many years, so he's not some passing random. Its also not his blog or work, despite what poster upthread seems to think o_0

It's not that. This place specifically says WE ARE NOT HERE TO HELP YOU, GO AWAY. Anyone that comes in here asking for help is going to get that. I don't have a problem with that.

It's that the guys at the posted link are actually offering to help people, saying, "I WILL HELP YOU WITH YOUR COMPUTER" then come up with that tripe that really rubs me the wrong way.

...Turns out it's all an in-joke on another site, though. Completely flew over my head. Haha.

*reads site* Wow, what a bunch of asshats. That kind of joke is okay if they put clear indicators that it *is* a joke site...but when it's set up so that someone could reasonably take them seriously--such as the kind of people *asking* those questions, and who unlike the community members here aren't tech-savvy enough to know these guys are spewing utter crap? If nothing else, I tend to want to slap them for making the next *real* tech these people talk to end up wasting their time with 'But the *last* tech I talked to said....!!!' problems. :-/ It's bad enough when it's accidental, but to do it on purpose? Major fail.
