I always read "Computer illiterate" as "It's a disability and it excuses me from trying!". Which, no, doesn't make any sense either in the actual meaning of the word, but that's how lusers use it.

I approve of flemco in general- yes, he's opinionated and sometimes comes off as a real horse's ass, but he's also hellaciously entertaining.

I work in an ISP. Once upon a time, an ex-boss (ex because it was found he was trying to scam the company and sell it's assets to another company for pennies on the dollar) made the decision to hire a new sales person. Upon being presented with her desktop and her laptop, she announced that she was "computer illiterate". In actual fact, she made no attempt whatsoever to use either computer for anything beyond duty as paperweights for the copious amounts of paper notepads she toted around.

She was fired within a week.

Perhaps "I'm reading here that that position really needs someone who can use standard office equipment. Fortunately, I have some numbers here on speed dial which might help. Would you like a refresher course in basic training from your manager, or should I advise HR you'd prefer to work somewhere less... officey?"

By the time they get to me, it's a truism. :p

It usually makes me want to ask them how they feed themselves, let alone how they got the job that allows them to afford to blow amounts of money i may never see in my life on computer systems, or get the degrees they claim to have, but I resign myself to the fact that life just isn't fair that way ..

Apparently a lot of people pad their resumes, if not outright lie through their teeth on them. Then when it comes time to actually do the work, they figure out ways to offload it onto other people and take credit for the results.

I'm about 95% convinced that most if not all of the people who give this kind of excuse at work are in fact trying to scam support into doing their job for them ..
