Jesus. My ISP helpdesk's team leader was just on the phone to a customer screaming at her so loudly, most of our office floor could hear him clearly from metres away, even though she was on a headset.

The call seemed to be going normally and then for reasons I'm not sure of I heard him start screaming "SHUT UP, WHY WONT YOU F*CKING SHUT UP, DO *NOT* CUT ME OFF WHY DO YOU KEEP DOING THAT OH MY GOD"... poor F sat there quietly letting him rant and froth, so then he has the gall to scream "ARE YOU STILL THERE?" after she hadnt replied because she was letting him rant. So then every time she tried to say "yes" or "sorry" or start a sentence he'd cut her off again with "DONT YOU TALK OVER ME YOU BITCH" and kept screaming at her. I mean he was really screaming too, not just yelling, I've never heard anything like it in my 12+ years of customer facing IT.

To top it all off, after a 15 minute call where she'd called him William all the way through, he then decides to holler "And stop calling me WILLIAM, my name is BILL, only people who don't KNOW me call me william dammit!".

And then hung up before she got to explain to him that we are in fact open on weekends. Which is what he was angry and yelling about in the first place, claiming we're not.

Angry man is angry o_0

Not terminating the call is stupid. Not cutting off their service is questionable.

Those Health Care protesters have to stay in practice, you know?

Because they can see what a piss-poor job the Labour UK government has done of managing it, which is why in the UK we have worse health care, it's just free (unless you want a prescription, then it's ridiculously priced unless you are a bum).

It's politics, not medicine.

It's all about an industry that we've let grow too big.

And they will say it's about socialism (except those that don't know anything.)

You want not to live in England, I think everywhere else gets prescriptions free.

Look, fair-to-middling healthcare is better than none at all. And if you don't like the NHS, nothing's stopping you from paying for BUPA (which is *still* cheaper than the US rip-off merchants).

Favoritest call ever, when I did overnight consumer calls.

Drunk guy, angry at not being able to down load german fetish porn (I assume) and taking out his tiny cock on me (I assume again) just was getting angrier and angrier at not being on line.

At one point he said to me, "No wonder you work in a shitty call center"

I had to agree with that point.

He then told me to suck his cock.

At that point, I disconnected, logged into the super secret management and billing forms that I don't officially have access to, and screwed up his account so bad that I'm pretty sure to this day he's still pulling that wad of fun out of his ass.

Moral.

Don't fuck with the overnight guys.

O.o

Yeah, that customer would be *GONE* at any place I've worked at within the first ten seconds of that tirade.

And by gone meaning that they'd be hung up on, and their account terminated for being an abusive asshole.

What you got beats the living shit out of what we got. We pay ten times as much for a tenth the care. I am not making that up. Oh if you have money you can get whatever you want; most commercial insurance will even pay for Viagra. But that's true in England, Canada and many other places too.

It's pretty simple.

The US Government runs 4 limited healthcare systems already. VA (for veterans), Medicare, Medicaid (For the really Poor and Seniors) and S-CHIP (Supposedly for poor kids whose parents don't qualify for Medicaid).

All are seriously screwed up. More than the rest of the US system. Most of the US simply doesn't trust the government to run a single healthcare system because they've badly screwed up the ones they already run.

Nobody in the US is arguing that the current system does not have serious issues. It does. The problem is that the proposed solution looks worse.

And there's no such thing as free healthcare. You pay for it via taxes and levies (As happens in Canada where I happen to live) and get rationed care (80% of Americans have access to better care than in any government-run system, it's the other 20% or so that are most of the problem) or you pay for it yourself or have your employer pay.

"Keep your government hands off of my Medicare!"

Did you know that almost all of these things, in some form, were said about Medicare when it first came out?

Date: 2009-08-20 02:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thecrazyfinn.livejournal.com
Yep.

The Seniors groups (and the seniors themselves) can be a little incoherent over the entire Medicare issue. Their major beef is that they're well aware that Medicare is broken, but it's broken in ways that generally help them and they don't want the suggested fix which would essentially bring them under a rationing scheme which isn't currently present (and is in many ways the primary reason why Medicare underpays physicians and is still broke).

Oh, I know its broken.

My wife is disabled, and on Medicare because of it (You don't know how much that small check has helped in hard times. It basically pays our rent). I've had to deal with it for 19 years now.

People are disabled should be able to get Medicare quickly and easily, but, because there is so much fraud, they can't. Took us 2 1/2 years of going through appeal after appeal and hearing after hearing to finally get it for her, when every doctor, including 4 of their own, said she should get it.

No different up here in Canada. My mother is disabled and it took damned near 5 years to get her on proper disability (The problem being she can work a full work week. Once. And then she's bed-ridden for a week).

Bureaucrats and 'fraud prevention' are a pain in every system and often lead to the sort of situation you and your wife went through.

From: [identity profile] attackgypsy.livejournal.com
Problem is, here it was, for quite some time and may still be, the policy to "deny every first attempt at a claim" to prevent fraud. Which is stupid. Then it was every three years, she had to be re-evaluated.

Thankfully, after 15 years, they said since she's been on it so long, she doesn't need to be constantly re-evaluated anymore.

I believe that. The side effects are nasty enough, realms of fantasy completely aside.

Hmm, I still don't own the Serenity DVD. Must remedy that. Then again it makes me very sad to watch that, to see that great storytelling is clearly a lost art in today's world, where crapreality reigns and even (ccccchhhhhkkk-pui!) Heroes gets renewed for yet another worthless season. Mlehhhhhhh.
