Really? Is this necessary?

Toolbar Fail

If you put that on a typical 1024x576 netbook screen, you won't even see the webpage!

I did once see a screenshot, where the entire browser except for maybe three lines of text was made of toolbars.

I've seen it in person -- well, via screenshot from a customer I was dealing with. Total of I think 13 toolbars, if not more.

Disable third party browser extensions is a godsend for those people.

I fucking hate that I have to start off with "I need you to type this in your ADDRESS bar, the one with http:// up there, and yes, delete everything out first. (if the caller sounds really dumb I just start off with CTRL + O for the open window).

Toolbars are an abomination upon the functional internet.

Holy crap. And I thought my "bookmark toolbar" on Firefox made things crowded.

Wow, that's impressive. Here I was thinking the excess toolbars a user of mine had accumulated before IE threw a fit was a large collection. This just... wow...

Reminds me of the internet in 1996... Tripod and Geocities sites.

I do have to say though, that bing toolbar really stands out. It looks so nice. Really draws the eye away from the others...

Just about.

My personal record was 6 or 7 on a "test" machine that I rigged up for the cow-orkers on my team as a training exercise in diagnostics for them.

The complaint I put on the ticket for that machine? 'User states machine runs slow.' I think I also dropped the machine down to 256 MB of ram for added effect. :D

Clearly you don't work for Flavio. (I believe we have discussed him before. I don't even work for IT--I'm an admin. But he gets annoyed if we have to call IT because I can't fix it. And the amount of time I have spent removing dumbass browser helpers from his machines has gone down a lot since his kids went away to school and don't use his laptops any more...but it hasn't gone AWAY.)

What I really hate is when people get mad at me because I took their bells and whistles away and don't believe me when I say that this shit is loaded with malware.

When I was an administrative assistant at the Research Pit, there was a small stable of managers who would call me first, then IT, because I knew what I was doing and was more approachable, plus worked with their learning styles. IT is too busy to work as remedial computer tutor unless it's desperately needed.

Re: malware, clearly we don't know what we're doing, as we haven't got a male adapter between our legs.

Something that's twice the width of anything else doesn't seem that "nice" to me. While plenty of space around things is nice from a readability POV, I really hate this trend to put about twice as much space around things as what is actually needed. Blech.

That's why I moved mine onto the menu line.

Geeze, toolbars are all terrible, but the Bing one is EXTRA terrible. It's even extra tall to fit that MSN logo!

Hate.

I hate toolbars with a passion. And then I hate getting yelled at by docs who insist they need their OMG Google Toolbar et al, in the tone approaching strident toddler who just lost their pacifier.

Death to toolbars.

Sir, you're awesome.

(I still remember cleaning my dad's computer. The scan took forever. My dad thought nothing untoward would happen on that computer because it was in the kitchen and he and my stepmom barely know how to use it. He forgot that since they go to bed at 9, my brother can go to all the FREE XXX PORN! sites he wants to as long as he's quiet about it.)

Good gods, how can the (l)user figure out which one they're using?

That exceeds even my (low) expectations of my fellow man.
