Just thought of something - you should tell them to try turning off and on again! LOL!

If I read this somewhere else and not in this group, I wouldn't have believed it.

Agreed with firon: user=doorknob.

Resolution: Advised user to install Doorknob SP3, uninstall any non-certified applications (Stickers v. 3.5, Message Board 2009), and attempt a defrag of the tumblers.

Sorted!

correction:

She's a nurse (I'm guessing a RPN, not an RN) who couldn't figure out that computers have nothing to do with photography and... that digital cameras are not the same as film cameras.

The stupid should hurt her as much as it hurts me.

It's great* how people assume that computer tech people (this is why I hate the term "help desk," actually) can fix EVERYTHING.

"Help me I can't get out of my office and no-one can hear my screaming?"

if only.

I've had ones like that as well, usually items of furniture, standard response is to ask if it comes with a circuit board, because if not, we DON'T FUCKING HANDLE IT.

I've also been asked to turn the Christmas music on in reception. I just looked at the girl blankly until she left the room.

"Hello, is this [doorknob]? Great! I was calling about the work order you put in regarding your door...yes...yes, i understand the doorknob fell off? How did that happen? ...Mmhmm...i see...well, give me just a moment, here...

[draw it out as long as possible]

...ah, i think i see the problem. You seem to have contacted the wrong department. I'm sorry? No, i'm afraid i can't help you. You see...we don't do doors. We only do Windows."

(I actually used this one once: I got a work order requesting that we re-core the doors to a hangar. I closed the work order with the above (admittedly horrible) pun. My boss saw it, printed it, and it went on the Work Order of the Month board.

Have you tried power cycling the door?

Yep, the knob is not the thing that is attached to the door, in this instance.

Won't work in our office. We had someone repair a broken coffee machine with a soldering iron last week.
Of course, coffee >> food.

...

My sympathies... we actually have a department for audio and visual at my hospital... we never hear from users needing film for digital cameras. :)
