I think that number is off by a factor of 4 or 8.

I've dealt with a number of Windows admins who were overpaid at that rate.

The sad thing is, given the number of skilled IT workers who've lost their jobs lately, that one will get plenty of applicants...

On a side note, in the UK, an average wage for someone working in a supermarket/other similar work is about £6-7/hour. I was speaking to a Norwegian friend who got his first job on a check-out in his local shop and is getting about £13/hour... which over there is considered crap money o.O

Hey, at least they're mentioning the rate. It really galls me when similar skillsets are asked for, and then you don't find out the crap rate until you've wasted time submitting resumes.

WTF are these people on?

That's all you find on craigslist. I swear to christ.

They seem to have misplaced their decimal point.

At least they're not asking for ten years experience in Windows Server 2003 or a master's in information systems. Those're about the only pluses I can see though.

Everything is relative by the cost of living. Where I live $12.50(£8.36) will barely sustain you if you have a room mate. You'll probably be living outside of the city.

But you drive 3 hours to the other side of the mountains and $12.50 a hour is a pretty good wage.

Hell, when I was 21, I was happy to be getting $12.50 a hour. I felt like slightly bad when I left the job for a .Com.Gone that offered me $14 a hour with STOCKS! These days I don't even get paid by the hour.

"They seem to have misplaced their decimal point."

You'd only pay them $1.250 a hour? That's just harsh, man.

Heh. You've gone rather the wrong direction.

Gad. I hate listings for laundry-list positions with chimpanzee wages.

Worse? They'll get applicants, people thrown out of work due to outsourcing and H1bs.

sounds like my former employer. they'd pay $19/hr for someone with a college degree and at least 5 years experience...for a helldesk position. yes, they required that much for helldesk.

last i heard they're still wallowing from lack the hole a coworker and i left behind when we departed. mwahahah.

This isn't that big of a deal. They want someone who can set up Windows-based web servers, maintain them and hold certain peoples' hands remotely, and is good at doing ass-covering paper work. I did just this sort of work for about that same money, only it was ten years ago.

I saw SO MANY of these sorts of job postings when I was looking for employment toward the end of my senior year of college.

Not only are the requirements for consideration ridiculous, but the pay is insulting for someone with half the skills.

I ended up taking a helldesk job that at least compensates me something close to what the work is worth.

There was a similiar position floating around the boston area for almost 6 months this year. Basically a hybrid network admin helpdesk, pay starting at $13/hour..

In boston $13/hour should be considered minimum wage for a stock clerk at the local super market.

You forgot the bit about "must have degree and five years experience".

That's higher than average, for around my area.
