What a week I'm having!

User: Where's my HotBar (IE adware)?
Me: I uninstalled it.
User: Everyone else gets to have a HotBar! How come I don't!
Me: Actually no one should have it.
User: Oh, forget I said that.

I then explained that I her system had been flagged as having a virus and I had been there to do a virus scan. I also explained the evils of adware. I think it's time to explain to my users that Internet access is a privilege that can be taken away!

I usually tell them it's outside the scope of what is supported, and that they are free to put it on, just not tell me. I also point out that it can cause problems, and really the drawbacks outweigh the benefits. If they end up logging a call...their manager's department pays... 8) If they complain after that, it's easy to explain to their manager what the call was for 8)
