To be honest, though, it's really going to depend on the personalities of the characters. A desk or other work area is generally going to reflect the person who uses it all the time. If there are shared areas, they will be affected not according to who uses them and how often, but also the culture of the organisation itself. A garage startup is going to have a lot more personalisation than a megacorp with strict cleanliness and ornamentation policies. And then there's the issue of how much money is floating around for such things, whether any of them are paid for by work, etc.
If I were them, I'd be trawling the internet for "geek[y]"+"on my desk/cubicle wall", or even "i'm a $jobtitle"+"on my desk/wall".
Even so, there's not a standard one-size-fits-all assortment of geek junk.
