Can anyone tell me why Service Pack 2 would take over 2 hours to install on a fresh install of XP Pro?
I've never seen it take this damn long.

EDIT: Yes, I know this is [livejournal.com profile] techsupport. Yes, I know this isn't a place for help or solutions. Was just seeking any similar experiences, not a solution.

So, go fuck yourself, or flame away. After all, it is Monday. :D

...because you accidentally typed in microsfot.com and are actually installing a comprehensive malware package?

Because you are soooo observant and are asking the snark community a technical question? We can only guess you are just as brilliant when choosing installs.

Damn I am being to nice today. Someone take my clue by four and whomp this user over the head for me?

2 hours seems pretty normal to me. Just wait until SP3 :)

Is that the one they make XP-Pro slower then Vista so we upgrade?

because it's a piece of shit, updating a piece of shit. shit plus shit equals two shits. afraid that's all I can give.

eww. I try to be tolerant, I really do. I've written bad code before, and my hardware constructions tend to be "good enough" rather than perfect. but, ewww. HP produces some real SHIT.

Wait, are you saying you can give two shits? Personally, I didn't think anyone here would give a single shit, let alone two shits.

Ironically, their low-end desktops are about the best things they make. naught more than a Asus mobo in a standard case with 80lbs of HP bloatware loaded. Uninstall the HP crap, use standard chipset drivers and they run pretty damned well.

is that the pavillion line? my last experiences with those have been horrid. But then, I wasn't allowed to nuke the existing install and redo from scratch.

Also admittedly, my last experiences with those were about 4 years ago.

Nah, I've been running an RC for months, it's actually improved stability.

Pavillions and also the Presario's (Got one of each, both nice little Asus boards in them).

I haven't seen it. (Ours are all slipstreamed.) But it wouldn't surprise me. I just did Windows Updates for only the past two months on a Dell laptop here that's about 3-4 years old and it took over an hour. :(

More likely it's simply not able to drive the HDD at full speed due ot the lack of chipset drivers and that's the slowdown. You can get XP drivers for the chipset without any problem, either the HP specific ones or generic Intel 865 drivers.

Somebody else who was a frequent poster in the community posted a similar gripe and didn't get flamed. Just sayin'.

If you want slow, install or uninstall the SQL Server Desktop Engine.
