Hammer Time: Part 2
Dec. 3rd, 2007 12:14 pm[Cross-posted to my private LJ]
So I had left a hard drive with the Security Chief over the weekend, hoping maybe he could pull some data from it. Today, he dropped it on my desk, informing me that it was fried.
"So, there's no help for it?" I asked.
He picked up the sledgehammer, "This is about all that can help that drive."
Then he did a double take, and the look on his face said: "Um... why does the Help Desk have a sledgehammer??"
I'm getting a lot of mileage off of this :)

Date: 2007-12-03 05:38 pm (UTC)one of our hardware folks tends to throw dead monitors till the screen/casing cracks. it's funny to see this 110 lb man with a Grizzly Adams-esque beard jumping up and down on a dead piece of hardware...
then there's the +5 Hammer of Destroying in the boyfriend's department...

Date: 2007-12-03 06:05 pm (UTC)My 10/22 has logged a few things that needed destruction.
Interstingly enough, At that time, I only owned the 10/22. the rest of the firearms were borrowed from several very friendly people who let me set up next to them, and got me hooked on the 7.62x54R round. And the AR. :)

Date: 2007-12-03 06:06 pm (UTC)I have the +10 screwdrivers of drive dismantling. The only screw I can't crack is the one holding the platters in. Red locktite is difficult to overcome with only a T5 driver...

Date: 2007-12-03 08:11 pm (UTC)It was WAY awesome.
(I also shot several mags of .40cal ammo at it, but my pistol seems to lack the recoil and awesome smoke cloud that the .50cal rifle had)

Date: 2007-12-03 08:40 pm (UTC)I know if someone bastid dumped 10 rounds of .22 LR over my head, I'd be disinclined to try robbing him...

Date: 2007-12-03 08:44 pm (UTC)Once qualified, it's ~$650 or so for a shooter grade.
I am fortunate as I can have one sent right to my door (I have a C&R FFL)

Date: 2007-12-03 08:54 pm (UTC)i intend to get my hands on a nice revolver for the "HOLYSHITGIRLWITHGUN" reaction. the pistol just doesn't cut it.
...and if i could handle it, i would spring for a coach gun as my "long gun" of choice (the sheer simplicity of it astounds me, really...), but it will literally throw me against a wall. i know a little too well - tried it with the boyfriend's shotgun.

Date: 2007-12-03 09:55 pm (UTC)'Course, I also want a Garand, M1 Carbine, and WWII era .45. So many guns, so few dollars.

Date: 2007-12-03 10:09 pm (UTC)i hear ya. i keep eyeing up so many different guns (rifles, shotguns, revolvers - already have my pistol) that i'd love to own but just can't afford.
my other half was going to do SASS until he realized just how much it would cost to get into it...at this point he only has a coach gun, so he'd need to get the remaining firearms PLUS the garb.
then again, he really is an overgrown kid in the body of an adult. :)

Date: 2007-12-03 10:12 pm (UTC)We figure we can get into SASS and share gun, but with costumes and such, we'd have to layout over $2000. Ouch!

Date: 2007-12-03 10:16 pm (UTC)now, i have a double whammy: motorcycle AND car, both of which i'd like to improve (the bike needs cosmetics and maintenance, the car "needs" a new WRX or STi motor, tranny, clutch...). of course, toss in a track helmet for racing the car, new gear for riding the bike...
bleh. money, i hate it so...

Date: 2007-12-03 10:28 pm (UTC)i just want more oomph in my little Subaru, at this point. i was told i'm not allowed any hot rods until after the man builds the garage (and of course, being the good girlfriend, i offered to pay for the purchase and install of a good post lift and full air system for tools and hydraulics and such...). that, of course, would lead into an even larger money pit as i start aquiring toys. he wants his CelicaSupra, i want a Dart (to start...haha), and we'd both like to be able to work on the bikes without having to rely on friends or *shudder* the shop for workspace. at least he has the knowhow with oldschool toys...i have a bit of knowhow with newer stuff, so between the two of us we shouldn't have too many problems. :)

Date: 2007-12-03 10:35 pm (UTC)Am hope that once my cousin has his house built, we can go in together on a place with a lift. I've pulled tranny's on the ground, but that was when I was much younger.
I've been looking at upgrading my beast to EFI and maybe twin turbo. But that would be too much, I think.

Date: 2007-12-03 10:46 pm (UTC)i think i got spoiled when i worked for a stealership service department...they'd let me do all my maintenance work myself, in-house, so now i can't dream of doing anything with a lift. getting on the ground is just so damned annoying. if i had the tools/lift/insulated workspace, i'd rarely (if ever) use a shop for work again.
twin turbo = front wheels leaving the ground often. :) not terribly useful if it's been used as a street car, but holygoddamnsexy regardless of the vehicle's purpose (especially on a car with that kind of power - twin turbo on a 4banger, not so much).
