I'm sorry that you accidentally spilled a glass of something on your brand new VAIO, $user. While it's good that you brought it straight here, its very bad that the machine was ON when the spill happened, and that you immediately tried to power the unit back on to make sure it was okay.. which of course it wasn't. Yes, I'm fully aware that you're a law student here at $university. Whats that? You have the accidental damage coverage from Sony? Well, thats good. No, you machine will most certainly not be ready by morning. We have to evaluate the damage, determine what parts need to be replaced, then get authorization from the 3rd party insurance company that runs Sony's extended warranty coverage program. No, there is nothing I can do to speed that up. We will get it turned around as quickly as we can, but if the damage is bad enough, the insurance company may total it, which means it will take some time to get a replacement.

::facepalm::

I had a luser pull that stunt on me.. sort of.

one of her clients got mad and spilled a full can of soda into the machine. (along with de-cording a mouse) Fortuantely, she knew to turn it off straight away and pull the battery.

Fortuantly, the boss at the time had the forethought to get the accident coverage for such things.

Even more interesting was when it came back to us "repaired", and the user had no end of problems with it, even though I could never figure out the problem with it, and it kept passing every diagnostic I tossed at it...

Heh. I worked at a college once. Loved the Mama's-lil'-darling that brought in her brand new Mac laptop with coke dripping from it. Yeah, Apple warranty doesn't cover that. Mebbe' Mama's CC has some coverage? At any rate, after she started yelling and then crying, I explained that College IT support was mostly to make sure you had a good network connection and access to network printers. We weren't a repair shop or anything like that.
