Unfortunately, I'm just as familiar with Mozilla's impressive list of crash-causing bugs and CPU-eating bloat.

I'll stick with the browser that works, even if it is a security nightmare.

I'm really not sure what could be causing that. I've been using Mozilla since 1.2, and I'm now on 1.5, and I don't see any CPU draw from it at all.

Of course, I don't use all of the various components of Mozilla, such as the mail or composer portions. If you don't use them, you might want to try uninstalling them. Same with any plugins that you might not use.

Mozilla will use around 27mb of memory, while IE uses around 5. If you don't have enough RAM, then that would cause a lot of writes to the VRAM, and slow the process down consierably, causing the CPU usage to spike. Why does Mozilla use so much? Because they're their own seperate browser, and don't use any of the bits that MSFT have programmed into the OS (which, incidentally, is why there's so many holes and bugs).

If you want all that, try Opera. I use that as my main browser, doesn't seem to crash half as much.

Mozilla I love...I loved the tabbed browsing, the middle scroll wheel click to open a tab in the background and the search button up there even though I'm sure that is in IE somewhere. I will look into that other thing though.

it's part of the install process. You may be able to uninstall those parts from the Add/Remove programs window. If not, then just download the new version and do a complete uninstall on the version you have now.

Are you using the Mozilla or Mozilla Firebird? The suite is rather bloated; Firebird is much tighter and less resource intensive. I ditched the Mozilla Suite once Firebird (then Phoenix) was stable enough to use every day, and I love it.

Mozilla Firebird and Mozilla Navigator are based on the same code, but the Firebird team has gone to great strides to make a compact, fast, efficient browser. For the most part, they've done a great job. Firebird is the only web browser I'll use now.

Ok I now have MyIE2 on my computer. I have one thing with Mozilla that I loved and it was this:

I can open a new tabbed window by using my scroll button/middle mouse button/wheel

and

When opening those new windows I can have them open in the background like when scrolling through your friends list and choosing who to reply to for example I can middle click on Comment Here and it would open a tab behind the one I'm in not disturbing where I am but keeping it all in the same window.

Can those be done?

Mozilla sure is. More memory usage, more CPU usage.

Firebird is a lot better than Mozilla for that, about equal to IE for CPU and memory usage, and with a lower disk footprint. But there isn't a good lightweight browser on Windows.

IE may be bloatware, but it's much lighter than Mozilla. Of course, Office is lighter than Mozilla, from a performance standpoint.

And if you think Mozilla is bad on Windows, try the Mac Version.

Must eh? Well since I can't figure out how to make my tabs load in the background of the tab I'm working in now instead of opening and my having to go back to the original one (yeah I'm spoiled) I may have to look into this other one.

I'll admit that earlier versions of Mozilla were crashy. But then again, so were earlier versions of IE. I may not be a typical user, but I use both at work, and actually get fewer crashes on Mozilla.

After getting used to a lot of Mozilla's features, I find it a lot more usable than IE, though that toolbar will go a long way towards bringing IE up to date.

I'm pretty sure it's in there somewhere, as Moz has it and Firebird pretty much tries to be a drop-in replacement for IE. Never used it tho, always worried that I wouldn't be looking and totally different data would sneak up on me :)
