Y'all are going to love this...

After re-imaging some of the machines, and making damn sure there are no hidden partitions on them, we go to install the encryption software again. Install goes OK. Reboots OK. Then, log in and watch as it automatically starts to encrypt the hard drive...

... well, that's what it was supposed to do.

In a unique twist of how things normally work, this new software runs just fine on older laptops. But there is something about the new laptops that it just doesn't like. They still haven't figured out what the issue is. My boss asked the security guy if there was any way we could go with different software with a different company. Not exactly. We've already bought 1,600 licenses for this stuff, and its already been installed on a few systems - backtracking now is not really feasible.

Are the new laptops Intel CoreDuo or Core2Duo? Do they have TPM?

My first instinct is to blame Vista.

If the new laptops don't have Vista installed, I still will blame Vista, because it is just that talented at screwing up software.

The new laptops are Centrino Duo, but it even did this on an OLDER one with a non-Duo Centrino.

No Vista. The first thing we do when we prep the new laptops is to put on a fresh image of XP Professional SP2.
