Hey everyone,

One of my co-workers at the TV station I am at has a disk that is telling us in windows that it is not formatted but I am able to see that there is contents on the disk via 'chksdk' or through scan disk. Is there any way that we can try to get the data off the disk for her?

Thanks :)

You know... I had this issue myself a while back... Don't recall how/if it was resolved.... Sorry, this wasn't too helpful. It's possible that the actual data is corrupted, but that the FAT is still intact, and that's what is giving you problems. In said case, the disk is FUBAR.

If it is important info....

First off, what operating system are you using that says the drive isn't formatted? If it's an NTFS formatted hard disk, then you wouldn't be able to properly access it from a Win '98/ME machine.

Second, if you are in a Win 2k/XP OS and can't see the data, and it's important information you need to look to EasyRecovery DataRecovery (http://www.ontrack.com/easyrecoverydatarecovery/) or other software from them. I've had great success in recovering data from many drives that were unreadable by the operating system. They have some free trial versions (http://www.ontrack.com/freesoftware/) which you can use to see if the data is recoverable, but won't actually let you recover unless you have a full version. Good luck!
