AOL and WinME

I got this customer who cannot get her Broadband connection (not pulling an IP from the broadband modem) on a computer with ME aaaaaaaannnnd AOL.. is anyone else surprised by this? she probably also has the Blaster worm or Welchia Worm

Doubt it, ME is a Win9X flavour of 'Doze, Blaster & friends can only infect (unpatched) NT-based boxen :)

But yes, ME is a big ol bag of monkey fecal matter.

The TCP/IP Winsock LSP (Layered Socket Provider) stack has been smashed by some shitty peice of spyware. I've seen DHCP break from this. Remove the TCP/IP protocol from all adapters, remove HKLM/Services/VxD/Winsock and Winsock2, reboot, then reinstall TCP/IP.

Alternatively, there is a program called LSPfix on cexx.org that will fix it without ripping protocols out.
