While I respect that you're intelligent enough to realize that if you sign up for a site with a "fake" email address, you won't get spam... It's always a good idea to be sure of two things:

1) That the address is, indeed, fake.
2) That the site doesn't send the username AND password in the email

Because now, I have multiple usernames and passwords at my disposal.

There really IS a bgates@microsoft.com?

I always would tell my friend not to register for things to "email@email.com"

Not as bad as my friend who thought, "Oh hey, Ashley has a domain name! I can register to myname@herdomain and get away with it! Teehee!"

She didn't realize that I had a catch-all set up on email. Sigh.

it is valid. why annoys me is when they reject perfectly valid adresses like with a '+'

Haha, I learned the hard way - now I just set up a forward for my seperate addresses to the main one.

Oh I wouldn't say that. I rather enjoy the 200+ AIM accounts I can choose from as a result of having one ;)

I am always amazed how often I get AIM registration emails on one of my domains.

Can't complain though, I've got plenty of choices of AIM names if I ever want to chat with people I don't trust enough to give my real AIM name to.

I've a friend with delete.me@gmail.com. He gets lots of people's details...

billg, actually.

Of course, you have to go through several layers of assistants before he sees it. There are more direct addresses, which obviously don't get posted publicly.

example.com isn't exactly "valid"; it's reserved for use in documentation. But the syntax is valid.

Most of the sites that reject '+' are also stupid enough to do their checking on the client side. Sometimes forcing the '+' to be accepted breaks their system on their end.

I know someone who gets a lot of myspace passwords sent to his domain. He either gives the accounts to evil friends, or just installs a standard (very not flattering) profile.

A right I missed the example.com detail :-/

Long time I haven't read the RFCs.

What's best is if they use the same password for everything.

+ eveltny billion.

If I need a disposable address, I just generate an alias on the server. Much easier.

And if I know it's going to be a harvested address, with no need for it to go anyhere, I ll usually put in abuse @ whatever domain it is. ::Evil grin:: Or I'll toss it to the biff filter I have.

i have thisisnotmyemail@gmail.com and so many people use that one to sign up for shit. I get myspace passwords all the time. it's fun to mess with them sometimes.

I have for years used a catchall adress system. If I register at spamspamspamdomain.com I register with the adress spamspamspamdomain.com@mydomain.net. I have gotten veeery little spam over the years.
