Did someone take their toys and go home?

Anyways.

I love it when a customer calls, nearly crying because "their internet is down", and when I look at their "internet" it's most definitely up and running. So I log in to their router, and notice that: There's nothing connected on the LAN side, or, what ever is connected on the LAN side is not responding.

The best way to test this is to plug something else which works into the router, and see if it talks to the LAN. The customer manages to find a locked down laptop to connect, and then we can't change any of the IP settings, and that's all they have, because their net admin is away working on a pond dam which is about to break. Seriously. And the only tech guy who can help can't actually do anything with an operating system because he "just maintains the servers". 40 minutes of my time trying to get this simple test done so that I can just dispatch a tech and be done with it, and the simple task of connecting a computer to a router and configuring its IP address is beyond both of the people I spoke with.

I wanted to cry, so I knocked off work a little early and had a few stiff drinks.

Damm, did I miss a troll/luser?

I have macros on hot standby for that sort of thing.

I think that the mistaken posts should be left up, simply as a warning to others.

In that case, I wish LJ had the option of making deleting community entries a moderator-only option.

Am I being terribly mercenary when I think "There's a company that desperately needs an extremely-high priced technical consultant" ?

Seriously. "Maintains the servers" and can't do OS stuff? What, he wipes them down weekly?
