"A friend works for tech support in a large corporation. Last week, a manager wandered in with his laptop and a USB pendrive, saying he'd saved some documents onto the pendrive while on the train that morning and now couldn't retrieve them.

After a brief investigation my friend had to tell him it wasn't a pendrive. It was a USB Bluetooth adapter and he'd saved his documents onto another passenger's mobile phone."

In a perfect world, we could put *HUGE FRONKING LABELS* on things like in Kinderguarden, so that they wouldn't have an excuse.

"And if you lose them again, I'll put them on strings that go through your sleeves."

"Isn't that childish?"

"Aren't you? Losing your $100 company-provided thumbdrive containing the $175,000 piece of propritary software that might, at this very moment, be depreciating due to being turned into Warez on the InterWeb? You want to be treated like an adult, prove you are one again."

thats pretty impressive. Not sure how that would work. Usually you have to go thru a pairing setup in order to get 2 bluetooth devices to see eachother and trust eachother.

As I pointed out in the original post, it's probably way more likely to be to a misconfigured laptop or PDA than a mobile phone. I've seen way too many set to blindly accept file transfers from any device (although it is much harder to set most PDAs to that mode of operation, it can be done).

The adapter I bought for my laptop defaults to not requiring secure connections and happily accepting any file sent to it without confirmation. Needless to say, I corrected that configuration immediately.
