I get a report of a "common use" computer being slow.

After I get there, I notice a few "odd" programs in the system tray.

I start "Add/Remove Programs"

Now, the company has a corporate virus checker.

SOMEONE (that must die) has installed:

Not just ONE additional virus checker.

Not just TWO additional virus checkers.

They have installed THREE virus checkers IN ADDTION to our origional on.

My amazement is (like many of yours) that it was running AT ALL.

And the origional call?

(Drum roll)

"I think the computer caught a virus!"

(Kill them. Kill them all)

I see your four Nortons, and raise you another Nortons, AVG, and something that's in Russian and doesn't show up on the "Add/Remove Programs" of Windows ME.

OMG but surely more=better?!?

And here I wonder why certain people keep refusing to install a virus checker when I tell them to because they left a few.. invisible gifts on my usb stick. "Oh noez I don't want my computer to be slowed down by a virus checker!!!1!one"

I think any sane and reasonable anti-virus program should complain about and offer to remove Windows ME.

I'm just saying ...

"Well, gee, I've found out that if I load down the computer with multiple layers of security and antivirus crap which is wasting a ton of CPU and RAM, it doesn't run very well. Hmm .. O-V-E-R-L-O-A-D-E-D .. duhhhhhhhhhh .. *virus*."

(from one of my favorite WB animated shorts .. the original quote was "G-U-N-P-O-W-D-E-R .. duhhhhhhh .. *tobacco*." :D )

AVG was too busy trying to prevent all the Nortons from causing damage to the system.

Still scratching my head on the Russian thing.
