Oh no, I'm so sorry. I hope your day is as stress-free as possible, and that someone buys you pizza. :(

OH!

GEE!

That is an impressive lession in ineptitude. Further compounded by blaiming you!

Let's see how the User Friendly storyline goes, maybe that'll give you some hints?

LMs going to need more than Rum!

Time to pull out the 307 Ale (http://www.tomsmithonline.com/lyrics/307_ale.htm) I think!

YES! Put that in their pipe and force them to SMOKE IT!

And I'm willing to bet that your company told 'em to make back-ups, too!

"One hundred fifty-three and one-half percent alcohol" sounds like the perfect strength to get through a day in Tech Support.

More stressful than BOMB DISPOSAL for frigs sake!

"No no no! That is *NOT* the answer I want to hear! Tell me something else!"

"OK, Sir. The streets are paved with Gold, there's good jobs for everyone in North America in this economy, and all computer gear works perfectly all the time after you set it up. Because of this, you're not actually phoning a tech support line, as we can't exist. Is that the answer you want to hear?"

I kinda snapped that day. *Blushes*

Luckily, that call wasn't monitored.

But the guy next to me didn't get to the mute button in time to laugh. ;-)

At least no one keeps screaming at you with bomb disposal, and if they do there's probably a fair chance a nice policeman will take them away.

backup?

what the fuck is a backup?

That's exactly the key.

You get screamed at, treated like a 4-year old, and demanded to fix everything.

And after you're done the Pre-Shift Meeting with your Supervisor...

(Hell, I remember one job where we never *GOT* the Pre-Shift Meeting, and, when things changed and we didn't know, we got in trouble as, "All this was covered in the Pre-Shift Meeting.").

Oooh nice! I love the "you were told at this time, but that's a general you, in the sense of *those two plants in the corner*, not you specifically" things. Like when they took me off the distribution lists at work (I changed desks, so they took me of the old one... but forgot to put me on the new one) and kept emailing the distribution list. "Hey, did you send out that email I asked you to?" "Yeeeees, I sent it to the team, didn't you get it?" "noooo" Had to get them forwarding them to me until they sorted it. I didn't need to know about getting a new teamleader, it's ok!

Nah, this was more a case of the Manager who yelled that at me being completely oblivious to everything.

I worked the evening shift for a Sales/Billing/Tech Support line for a New York Cable Company. I got on *JUST* as everyone in New York got home to find TVs that didn't work. We didn't have *TIME* for Pre-Shifts. More than once, I wasn't allowed to take my Winter Coat off, I was grabbed and thrust on the phones with a promise of OT for ten minutes (Wasn't worth it.).

So happy to get Dayshift!

Then they moved me back to nights for Christmas, and I couldn't recover after that. Too many people screaming at me to get "It's a Wonderful Life" working. :-S

I got to see the "Deer in the Headlights" look more than once at my most recent job. ;-P

And I have actually *SEEN* deer in headlights, and can confirm just how accurate it is!

Moose in headlights, now, that's a different story. I've seen some folks do that as well, and you know that's trouble. You *WILL* fix this problem, or *THEY* will fix you. By hiring a Vet!

Don't worry, that job was five years ago. I'm over it now, mostly.

I hear it got worse about two months after I left. Seems they decided we should also support their new service, Voice Over Cable.

Funny, noone told the people in Canada.

Yep, you heard right, no info, no support, no prices, no idea how to add onto accounts, no idea even what the equipment looked like, *NOTHING*.

Oh, and on a rushed, buggy system that still doesn't work right.

Hell, they *STILL* can't get the OnDemand stuff working right! And that's almost ten years old.

Surely by now they can all recite "It's a Wonderful Life" off by heart :P
